ACCA Schedules Special
Session to Help Contractors Learn from NBC Sting.
With record heat across the country
this summer, HVACR contractors have been in high demand. The demand
increased significantly in early July when the Today Show aired an
undercover “sting” operation, which exposed several technicians
using some seemingly unethical techniques when being called to a
customer’s home. The “sting” re-broadcast on Sunday, August 19, in
an extended format on NBC’s Dateline.
To help contractors learn more about what happened with the program
and how they can use this as a learning tool, ACCA has scheduled a
special lunch session, “Taking the “Sting” Out of the Media,” during
the fifth annual Service Managers Forum, October 11 – 12 in Austin,
TX. This special session, which will feature Robert (Bobby) C. Ring,
of Meyer & Depew Co. in Kenilworth, NJ, who served as the contractor
expert for theToday Show and Dateline segments, is sponsored by
Davisware.
During this session, Ring will lead a conversation on how service
managers and contractors can use this experience to enhance employee
training and improve customer service. He will share how and why he
decided to participate in the program and share the parts of the
program that the viewing public did not see, because they were left
on the editing room floor.

“I was glad to work with
the NBC to help educate the public about what they should look
for in a quality contractor,” said Ring. “I was very
disappointed by those contractors who did not seem to be doing
the right thing. However, now that the segment has aired twice,
contractors need to take advantage of if and use it to ensure
that their team members don’t get caught in this type of
situation. During this special session I will share some ideas
for how contractors can use this to train their team and open up
the conversation for attendees to share their ideas and ask
their questions, so we can all grow as an industry.”
This special session is just one of many that will be taking
place during the Service Managers Forum. You can see the full
program schedule at

When you register for the Service Managers Forum by August 31,
you will receive the early bird pricing of $395, which is $100
