Rose State
College in Oklahoma City Offers Building Operator Certification.
Rose
State College’s Environmental Training Center in Oklahoma City will
offer the first Building Operator Certification (BOC) course in
Oklahoma starting October 24. BOC is a national program to certify
facilities personnel in job skills and knowledge to improve the
energy performance of their buildings.
Annual energy savings from BOC graduates in other states is
documented to be between $12,000 to $20,000 per facility.
Together with the South-Central Partnership for Energy Efficiency as
a Resource (SPEER), Rose State’s program will last 4-6 months,
designed to teach participants competence in locating building
equipment, distribution pathways, and control points; calculating
facility energy consumption; critiquing HVAC systems operation; and,
sketching a facility’s electrical distribution system. Story

Courses include
eight days of instruction with an exam each day, five projects
completed between classes, small class size (typically 25) for
more individualized instruction, culminating in nationally
recognized certification from the Northwest Energy Efficiency
Council. Subjects include Energy Efficient Operation of HVAC
Systems, measuring & benchmarking energy performance, efficient
lighting fundamentals, HVAC control fundamentals, indoor
environmental quality, common opportunities for low-cost
operational improvement, with supplemental subjects decided by
students and instructors.
