Lifeworks to
Reduce Energy Costs by 30 Percent with High-Efficiency HVAC
Equipment Provided by Direct Expansion Solutions.
Direct Expansion
Solutions (DXS), a North American HVAC manufacturers'
representative that specializes in variable refrigerant flow (VRF)
implementation and design, announced today that it provided
LifeWorks
with an energy-efficient HVAC system projected to help the
non-profit organization cut HVAC energy costs by 30 percent. Daikin,
represented by DXS, was selected as the basis-of-design for the
project by engineering design firm,
Bury+Partners, because it
offered equipment that could heat and cool the facility in an
efficient manner with multiple zones.
LifeWorks is a respected non-profit, donation-based organization
that helps youth and families make the transition from crisis to
safety and success. The facility houses multiple services, two other
non-profit organizations, and hosts community functions. Because the
facility operates late into the evenings and on the weekends, energy
savings is a high priority and required a system that could be
customized to best serve the facility’s current needs.
“Organizations dedicated to serving those in need have to identify
any way to reduce operational costs,” said Keith McLaughlin,
principal for DXS. “We were pleased to provide LifeWorks with
specialized HVAC solutions that maximized efficiency, minimized
energy costs and helped the organization reach its sustainable goals
set forth by the Austin Green Build program.” Story

DXS worked with
Mtech, an Austin-based mechanical contractor, to install a
six-unit, 96-ton Daikin Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) heat
recovery system; a six-ton Daikin VRV heat pump; one Daikin
Intelligent Touch Controller (iTouch) with start and stop
control for ancillary equipment; and 42 indoor fan coil units.
“We relied on the guidance from the construction and engineering
team to select energy-efficient HVAC technology that would
reduce our energy-costs,” said Mitch Weynand, CEO of LifeWorks.
“The projected 30 percent savings will allow us to streamline
our operational costs and use the funds to reach more families
in need of assistance.”
